Tahiti is often called the island of love. It is the largest island in the group of islands of French Polynesia. Spectacular coral reefs and crystal clear waters surround Tahiti. The landscape in Tahiti also consists of dense rain forests and volcanic peaks. Mountains have tall fern trees and waterfalls that cascade down to rivers and streams. Tahiti-Nui and Tahiti-Iti are the two main island masses that comprise of Tahiti. There is a main road that passes through the mountains and seashores. Smaller roads pass across dairy farms and panoramic citrus groves.
A bustling place of activity is the capital town of Papeete, which happens to be a port too. This city contains the police head quarters, hospitals and is generally considered the business hub of Tahiti. International flights land at Papeete airport, Faa. It is fun to sit on the sidewalk of a cafe in Papeete and watch passersby while sipping a drink.
The cuisine in restaurants at Papeete is French, Asian to traditional Polynesian. Outside this bustling town are the remains of the past and travelers can just drive over to have a look at them. Beaches and plantations are some of the other things that are worth visiting.
There are numerous hotels and resorts that are located at different tourist destinations. Tahiti can be easily accessed from most international airports in the US and Europe. Inside Tahiti, the mode of transport is the public bus service that is called Le Truck. The destinations are written on top of the buses and most of these services terminate at the center of Papeete. Authorized stops are marked with blue signs on the side of the road. Apart from this service there are private taxi services that are available in plenty at Tahiti.
Evenings are a festive time on the streets of Tahiti. Roadside cafes offer a tempting choice of food such as pizzas and steaks. The street cafes do not serve alcohol. Bars and nightclubs serve alcohol in their premises.
